My Favorite Buddy

Malachi and I really have some good times goofing around.  I love his age right now.  He tells us some funny jokes, and keeps smiles on our faces!

Trip to D.C. July 2010

Right after we got to Fort Drum in June, Amasa found that he wasn't going to have a lot to do until he inprocessed and got credentialed.  So, his commanding officer asked him if he wanted to get Lasik and of course Amasa said "Yes"!  At the beginning of July we went as a family to D.C.  The army paid for the hotel and the surgery all we had to pay for was the fun!  I think we had more fun than Amasa since he spent a lot of the time at Walter Reed or the hotel.

The first full day there we took the kids to an outdoor mall down the road where they had a fountain splash park.  It was pretty fun and very necessary since there were breaking temps that week in D.C.  I think it got up to about 110* while we were there.  It was HOT!

Day 2, Amasa was able to get out so that was the day we saw all of the monuments.  As you can tell from the pictures, we were a sweaty mess.  All we really consumed that day was popsicles and water.

Day 3, was Amasa's surgery day, so the kids and I headed out right after he got back from Walter Reed and went to the Museum of Natural History.  They had a blast.

Day 4 and 5 we drove to Fredericksburg, VA to visit Amasa's brother and his family.  We spent a nice weekend relaxing at their house and celebrating our niece, Indi's, 12th birthday.  The kids also really enjoyed seeing and playing with their cousins.

Day 6 Amasa was the sweetest husband ever.  He watched the kids so I could go do stuff around D.C. by myself.  I started out the morning at the Eastern Market.  Then I went to the Museum of American History.  I walked around a bit before heading back.  While I was gone, Amasa took the kids to a movie.
We really enjoyed our time there.  It was a first for all of us.  My sister, Beth, also made the trip a lot easier.  She was really nice to send her metro smart card to me all loaded with money.  She also put up with my calling 20 times a day to ask questions!

This is Malachi standing by a bee hive.  This was the closest I could get him to stand to it!

Introducting...Dr. Amasa Mecham

In May, we drove to Houston for Amasa's graduation. It was such a wonderful...except for the rain! Like any special day, it was crazy trying to get everyone in the car on time (Amasa's parents came with us). It didn't help that it was down- pouring and not letting up. Well, we got everyone into the car and realized that either Amasa or I had dropped his cords into a puddle (did I mention he graduated with honors!). They were drenched. Luckily they gave him a new set to wear when he got there. We are so proud of him!

Aelia fell asleep during the speaker (it was 2 hours of torture). Ok...maybe that is a slight exaggeration!

Catch up....Easter

Ok...I know it's been awhile. I have been very bad at blogging but I am bound and determined to catch up this week.

So, this is Easter! We were still in San Antonio at the time. Saturday we had brunch and watched conference at my friend Amy's house (I know, Amy and Amy, it's hilarious ;) ). We then had all of the men hide easter eggs at a nearby park and we took the kids on an egg hunt. I have a picture of all of the kids but just didn't know how all of their parents would feel about me plastering pictures of their kids all over the internet!

Catch up....Witte Museum

In March, we went to the Witte Museum in San Antonio. Every Tuesday was a free family day so we went but they also had a special exhibit called "Dinosaurs Alive". Malachi BEGGED us to go so we did! It was a lot of fun, but Malachi was scared and spent most of the time asking to go home. When we decided to take the kids we didn't realize the exhibit mostly consisted of large rubbery, plastic dinosaurs that roared! It was a lot of fun though. Malachi and Aelia both enjoyed the area where you could dig through rubbery "sand" and find dinosaur fossils.

San Antonio Zoo

A few weeks ago we decided to take the kids to the zoo. We had heard it was one of the best in the nation. It was such a fun day. The weather was beautiful...not to hot but warm enough to enjoy ourselves without jackets. The kids had a great time!

The children's area had goats to pet and brush. Malachi spent the time chasing them around because none of them wanted to sit still and let him pet them. Aelia had a goofy grin on her face the whole time she was petting them!

I know it's not recognizable but this is a fish tank that Aelia is standing in front of. There was this catfish who really liked her and whenever it would come near they would kiss each other through the glass. It was so funny!
